Objective of the Event: To create awareness among the students about dimensions and challenges related to gender, accessibility and fund raising in social service.

Summary: The Department of Sociology and Social Work in collaboration with Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) organized a guest lecture on ‘fundraising for social service’. At the onset, a short introduction of Ms. Devika Shekhawat, Founder and CEO of Dhara Shakti Foundation, Jaipur was given by Dr Pragya Sharma. The foundation works towards equitable development to empower underprivileged women, children and youth. The lecture was divided into certain sections which broadly covered the various components related to social service and fund raising. The session revolved around the work of her NGO, the social impact it has been able to achieve so far and strategies for fundraising in non-profit sector. Ms. Shekhawat presented data, case studies and success stories to illustrate the positive changes brought about by the organization. She emphasized on the shortcomings related to deprived group of women and the associated hurdles towards equitable development. She highlighted the importance of diversifying funding sources like corporate partnerships, grants, crowdfunding, etc. to ensure sustainability of an NGO. Towards the end of the session, Ms Shekhawat engaged in a dialogue with the students and discuss about the ‘Seven faces of Philanthropy’ which encompasses various motivation and approaches towards social services and working for deprived groups.

Outcome of the Event:

The information provided during the session was highly informative and inspiring, providing valuable insights into the workings of the foundation, issues of deprived women and other groups and various sources of fund raising.
