Objective of the session: To create awareness and provide cultural context towards the area and scope of social work in Rajasthan and Kerala.

 

Summary: The session took place at IIS University, where the guests from St. Berchman’s College, Kerala were cordially welcomed with Tika-Moli. The session began with a welcome note from the moderator of the event, Ms Yuttika Singh who invited over Prof. Ila Joshi, Dean of Social Sciences to welcome the guests. It was followed by a brief introduction of the Department given by Dr Pragya Sharma. As the session also aimed for cultural exchange, the students of the department presented a traditional folk dance.

Subsequently, Prof. Sharad Rathore gave her presentation dedicated to Rajasthan, its rich cultural heritage and historical significance. This introduction was followed by an elaborate overview of the benevolent endeavors undertaken by the students in the department who provided an overview of the scope of social work in Rajasthan. They shared their experiences working in the field focusing on blue pottery atisans, SHGs, PRA, etc. Subsequently, the students from both the institutions began their  discussion centered around the role of social work department and its endeavors to uplift the local community.
An engaging activity was conducted where students from both the institutes shared their individual interests and the driving forces behind their pursuit of a Social Work education. In an effort to foster friendship and facilitate communication, an interaction activity was organised wherein every student took part. The event proceeded with a PPT presentation by the faculty representing St. Berchman’s College who shared valuable insights about their institution, shedding light on its noteworthy contributions to society through their philanthropic activities. This exchange of knowledge and experiences left a lasting impression on all attendees, reinforcing the dedication for social betterment. It was followed

by a small presentation by Prof Shilpi Rijhwani, Director of School of Life Sciences, who acquainted the guests with the history, functioning and vision of the University. The event was concluded by a thank you note delivered by Ms Anjali Anand.

After the session, mementos were presented to the guests by the Chancellor, Prof. Ashok Gupta and Registrar, Prof. Raakhi Gupta as a way of expressing their participation in the activity.
