According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, women who are 50 years old or older are subject to the risk of breast cancer but this can affect younger women too. As a part of observing the Breast Cancer Awareness Month(October 1 to October 31,2021),IIS(Deemed to be University), Jaipur organised a guest- lecture in collaboration with SANJEEVANI, Life Beyond Cancer, an NGO that is solely dedicated to providing holistic care for cancer patients. The NGO empowers cancer victims by spreading hope and positivity so that the boundaries of care could be expanded. Cancer has been categorized as a lifestyle disease by the World Health Organisation and hence there are chances to prevent it by adopting a healthy lifestyle. Miss Archita Verma discussed about the prevalence of breast cancer. In this session, she discussed about the self-diagnosis using graphics so and clinical tests associated with breast cancer. She stressed upon the fact that breast cancer can actually be treated if diagnosed at the correct time and hence it is important to stay positive. She discussed with the students what kind of behaviour is desirable towards cancer patients; she highlighted that it is essential to see cancer patients as fighters and bravehearts, victimization and discrimination can weaken people’s determination to fight the ailment.It is important to have a healthy lifestyle that includes balanced diet and exercise. Archita ma’am stressed upon the importance of eating the right kind of food in order to develop immunity against various diseases. Students expressed their concern and asked the queries concerning the topic. There was a quiz related to breast cancer awareness towards the end of the session in which all the students actively participated. All the participants pledged to play their part in spreading awareness about breast cancer .The session was informative and sensitizing.
