Objective: 

This course portrays a broad canvass of unity and diversity of Indian society and culture, the evolution of Indian civilization from pre-historic to post-vedic era, the process of socio-cultural change in modern India, the constitutional framework safeguarding the interests of the weaker sections of society and finally the contributions of anthropologists to the understanding of Indian society and culture. The course aims at promoting a clear understanding of the varying patterns of social systems and cultures across the country and the forces binding them together leading to the appreciation of the composite nature of Indian culture.
