Guest lecture on "Natural vs Social Sciences"

Social Sciences in the recent years has gained immense popularity and opened up extensive avenues in the field of research and hence it needs to be analyse how far the approach is objective and to what extent it can justify the nature of Sociology as a discipline. On 23rd February, 2018 Department of Sociology organized a guest lecture on the topic “Natural Sciences vs. Social Sciences by Professor Paramjit Singh, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. He discussed about the issues faced by the students of social sciences and how the discipline draws from heavily from natural sciences. Science and societal beliefs keep coming in conflict with each other .Professor Paramjit explained how social sciences consist of essentially contested concepts and values change because human beings are conscious and have different personalities. His session was an eye-opener to the ways of exploration of vast body of knowledge and finding common and uncommon grounds between social sciences and natural sciences.
